We were recently involved in two initiatives aimed at minimising the airport’s aircraft emissions:
- An action plan to reduce the APU and engine usage by aircrafts on the ground, carried out in co-operation with the local five home-based carriers. Among the implemented measures, MovingDot’s contribution focused on awareness campaigns for pilots and apron staff, the adjustment of procedures between these parties and the airport, as well as increasing the priority of connecting electric preconditioned air units (PCAs) by the ground handlers. Accelerating the introduction of these measures among airlines and ground handlers was an important part of our work.
- Setting up a plan of approach for adjusted arrival and departure procedures. These would allow starting up aircraft engines as far away as possible from people working in the apron area, as well as reducing congestion near and at the bays. Our role included supporting the program’s management and facilitating stakeholder engagement.
We are proud to support Schiphol’s efforts to create a healthier working environment for airside employees while also reducing its impact on the climate and the broader environment.
